At Platte Hemp Company, we’re all about digging into the facts behind the plant—and today, we’re spotlighting a cannabinoid that’s gaining attention for its relaxing effects: CBN (Cannabinol). Often overshadowed by CBD and THC, CBN is emerging as a unique compound with special benefits, especially for sleep and pain.
Kratom (Mitragyna speciosa) is a tree native to Southeast Asia. For centuries, its leaves have been used as a natural remedy for energy, pain, and mood support. Today, kratom is gaining attention as a plant with real potential—especially thanks to two of its main active compounds:
Mitragynine – the most abundant alkaloid in kratom.
7-Hydroxymitragynine (7-OH) – a much smaller compound by volume, but significantly more potent.
Your body naturally converts mitragynine into 7-OH after consumption, which is where kratom gets its strongest effects.
Mu-opioid receptors – These are the same receptors activated by pain medications like morphine. Kratom acts as a partial agonist, offering pain relief and calm without full opioid side effects.
Serotonin and dopamine receptors – Help improve mood, motivation, and reduce anxiety.
Adrenergic receptors – Support energy and alertness, much like caffeine.
One fascinating fact: 7-OH is about 10 times more powerful at pain relief than mitragynine, and in lab studies, it even outperformed morphine in mice—without causing heavy sedation or dangerous breathing issues.
1. Pain Relief
Kratom is widely used for managing chronic pain, arthritis, migraines, and more.
7-OH binds powerfully to pain receptors—helping ease discomfort naturally.
Users often find kratom provides similar relief to prescription painkillers but with fewer side effects.
2. Mood Support & Mild Euphoria
Acts on serotonin and dopamine systems to lift mood.
Provides a sense of well-being and lightness.
Can enhance sociability and motivation.
3. Anxiety Reduction
Many users report feeling more relaxed and less tense.
Higher doses promote calm and mental stillness.
Acts like a natural anti-anxiety tool—without prescription drugs.
4. Energy & Focus
At lower doses, kratom acts as a gentle stimulant.
Boosts mental clarity, focus, and physical energy.
Traditionally used by Southeast Asian workers for stamina.
5. Opioid Withdrawal Support
Kratom helps reduce symptoms like nausea, insomnia, and cravings.
Used by many to taper off opioids naturally.
Functions similarly to medications like Suboxone, but from a plant.
ratom and 7-OH activate some of the same receptors as opioids—but in a gentler, more selective way. They’re known as “G-protein-biased agonists,” meaning they deliver pain relief and calm without strongly triggering the side effects that make opioids dangerous (like respiratory depression).
In other words, kratom can relieve pain and anxiety without knocking you out or slowing your breathing like traditional opioids.
Kratom comes from the same plant family as coffee, which may explain why small doses can offer a smooth energy boost, better focus, and even appetite control. Many users describe kratom as “calming yet uplifting”—a unique balance of stimulation and relaxation, depending on the dose.
At Platte Hemp Company, we believe in the mindful and respectful use of natural wellness products. As with any supplement or botanical, kratom and its active compounds should be used responsibly and in moderation. Individual experiences may vary, and effects can depend on many factors including dosage, frequency, and individual health. Abuse or excessive use of any substance—natural or otherwise—can lead to unwanted effects. Please use with care, intention, and balance.
At Platte Hemp Company, we’re proud to offer a variety of CBN-infused products, including oils, gummies, and sleep blends. Whether you’re struggling with sleepless nights, aches and pains, or just looking to relax, CBN might be your new go-to cannabinoid.
